Bridget is an experienced disputes litigator with a diverse practice. Areas of expertise include contract and commercial law, property rights, negligence, trusts and equity.

Background

Bridget is a New Zealand qualified lawyer with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Auckland, where she graduated first in her law cohort. She also holds a Master of Laws from Harvard Law School, Cambridge USA.

Bridget began her career as a clerk to the Court of Appeal of New Zealand, before joining one of New Zealand’s leading barristers’ sets as a junior in 2019. As a junior barrister, Bridget acted on a diverse range of civil disputes for both public and private entities, including complex, high-value and high-profile matters. She has appeared in the District Court, High Court and Court of Appeal of New Zealand, and acted on two major Supreme Court matters. She has also acted in arbitrations (domestic and international) and mediations.

Bridget was admitted to the New Zealand bar in 2018. She joined Enyo in October 2024.

Cases
  • Acted on the Supreme Court phase of a high-value dispute between two major mining entities concerning payments and royalties said to be due under a contract for the purchase of mining permits. The resulting Supreme Court judgment is now the leading New Zealand authority on contractual interpretation and implied terms.
  • Acted for a professional indemnity insurer in a dispute with another insurance company concerning the allocation of liability for defective repair work on insured homes in the wake of the Christchurch earthquakes.
  • Acted for a nation-state in an international arbitration concerning a satellite communications infrastructure contract.
  • Advised and acted for company directors and shareholders in disputes involving alleged breaches of director’s duties and related issues arising under company law.  
  • Advised and acted for various high net worth individuals in claims involving wills, estates and family trusts.
  • Acted on the Supreme Court phase of a landmark class action by kiwifruit growers and their distributor against the New Zealand government alleging negligent biosecurity at the border (settled prior to Supreme Court hearing).
